Privacy Policy

Voice Butler is a push-to-talk dictation app for macOS. It is built to keep your voice and your words on your own Mac. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.

What stays on your Mac

Transcription happens entirely on-device using Apple's speech engine. Your audio is never recorded to a file and never leaves your Mac, and the transcribed text is typed directly into the app you are using. Your dictation history and any custom vocabulary you add are stored locally on your Mac and are never uploaded anywhere.

No accounts, no tracking

Voice Butler has no user accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising or tracking of any kind. We do not collect usage data.

The only times the app uses the network

Voice Butler contacts the internet in two limited cases, and neither one includes your audio or transcribed text:

License activation and validation. When you enter or re-check a license key, the app sends that key and a device identifier to our payments provider, Polar, to confirm the license is valid. No dictation content is sent.
Software updates. The app periodically checks for new versions and downloads updates. This is a standard web request. As with any download, the hosting servers can see ordinary connection metadata such as your IP address.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Polar, our merchant of record. When you buy a license, Polar processes your payment and billing details under their privacy policy. We never see or store your card details.

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version on this page.
